Demonstration in Paris on March 16 near the Chinese embassy to protest against the Chinese government policies concerning Tibet. Marking the 49th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against Chinese occupation, which led to the exile of the Dalai Lama, the protest takes a new meaning a few days later as violent riots erupted in Lhasa. The first peaceful demonstrations by the monks led to arrests, which in turn resulted in more protests demanding the release of the prisoners. The whole thing escalated into full blown riots today, with apparently 80 dead and reports of Chinese police firing live ammunitions.
