Humans of New York é um projeto feito por Brandon Stanton. O fotógrafo criou, em 2010, um site cujo objetivo era fazer um censo fotográfico da cidade.
Com o tempo, ele começou a colecionar frases e histórias dos nova-iorquinos. E o projeto cresceu e ficou ainda mais bonito! ♥
I thought it would be really cool to create an exhaustive catalogue of the city’s inhabitants, so I set out to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers and plot their photos on a map. I worked for several months with this goal in mind. But somewhere along the way, HONY began to take on a much different character. I started collecting quotes and short stories from the people I met, and began including these snippets alongside the photographs. Taken together, these portraits and captions became the subject of a vibrant blog, which over the past two years has gained a large daily following. With nearly one million collective followers on Facebook and Tumblr, HONY now provides a worldwide audience with glimpses into the lives of strangers in New York City.
Na foto acima, o depoimento: “We went to the same high school, but weren’t really friends. He joined the Navy for ten years, and when he came home, I happened to be working in the same retirement home that his grandmother was in. We met in the lobby. He tried to tell a joke about having been all around the world while I stayed at home, but it backfired and made me cry.”

“If you could give one piece of advice to a large group of people, what would it be?”“Be kind and thoughtful.”“What’s your greatest struggle right now?”“Being kind and thoughtful. Because I’ve got some friends that are driving me freaking nuts.”
“I’m a kick boxer and I own a restaurant.”“How do those two things relate?”“They both require maintaining a calm center in the midst of chaos.”
After I took the photo, the man stuck around to give me his contact information. After a couple minutes, his wife started calling impatiently from outside. “I waited 40 years for her,” he said. “She can wait 5 minutes for me.”
“She saved my life.”
“I’m starting a blog for seniors!”
